The Myth of Andrew Nominations and Awards
|
|
Two gay people, Jo and Andrew, in a haze of intoxication, wake up to realise `yes, they’ve done it’! Are their respective lovers furious…or are they? The result `of having done it’ is a pregnancy, a child, and high comic chaos as four very sexy and delightful young people, whose last thought in life is `children’, take on their responsibilities amid much high camp and down-to-earth coping.

A new play by Gideon van Eeden.
Presented by Artscape in association with the Siyasanga Cape Town Theatre Company
A project of the Artscape New Writing Programme
Dublin received this production very well. This was reflected in audience reaction and reviews.
"...a compassionate, charming look at how pregnancy and parenthood are personality altering experiences for four very different people... Dean Roberts and Deborah Vieyra get into an impressive stride, with Vieyra stealing the show. They are perfectly complemented by the outrageously camp Lawrence (Ashraf Johaardien) and the strong-willed but soft Saartjie (Daneel van der Walt). The dialogue is razor sharp and witty, performed with exacting pace."
"While the production is peppered with colloquial slang, it's also entirely accessible and shines a colourful light over modern culture and lifestyle in Cape Town."
Aoife Finneran, EVENING HERALD
'Practically full house last night & riproaring reception. Irish journalist spoke to me afterwards, saying, "You Artscape people always bring such good writing." Roy.'
SMS from director Roy Sargeant to playwright Gideon van Eeden on 12/05/2010
"(The Myth of Andrew and Jo) weaves through enlivening stage devices and warmly engaging performances to reach an uplifting conclusion."
Peter Crawley - IRISH TIMES
After a virtually sold out showcase in the Artscape Arena and an award winning wolrd premiere at the Dublin International Gay Theatre Festival, this production will return to home soil, Artscape, in December 2010.
